To me, Cinematography is best described in the following excerpt by a Famous DOP:


“Turn out all the lights in the room,go sit in front of a mirror.Hold a flashlight and aim it straight up, towards your face. Switch it on.

What movie are you in? Frankenstein.

Now hold the flashlight directly over your head, aimed down.

What movie are you in ? The Godfather. Very good.

Light a cigarette,blow a lot of smoke,hold the flashlight behind your head.

What movie are you in now ? Casablanca. Excellent.

Now aim the flashlight straight at your eyes, don’t blink.

You got it. The Evening News.”
